Dark Souls FAQ: Laurentius of the Great Swamp - Gone Missing
This Handsome Man is Pyromancer Laurentius
The in-game conversation goes like:
"Ah, hello, there. You've been a stranger these days. Why, what spectacular pyromancy. Tell me about it. I have never seen anything like it."
You can say YES or NO -- to tell him how you got stronger or not. This warrants the following conversations:
Yes
"Why, yes, of course! Thank you for sharing. I'm still an able pyromancer. I shall locate her myself. I am in your debt, once again."
No
"I see. I suppose I was mistaken. In any case, I definitely trust you. Apologies, my friend. Forget that I said anything.
You may be thinking to yourself: Well, I do like you Laurentius! So I will go ahead and tell you, my swampy companion!
If you value HIS life, then do NOT tell him. He will go searching for his master in Blighttown, and WILL die, thus becoming hollow. You'll end up finding him there and unfortunately...he will try to kill you. Do him a favor and end his life. If you decide to be a jerk and NOT tell him (perhaps you value his company at Firelink Shrine in this lonely, lonely game), then he will stay there forever -- giving you a chance to stare at his beautiful swamp atire. He will hate you in secret forever, but that won't bother you, because deep down you know that you are the only reason he is alive.
Laurentius is hollow. Can I bring him back to life or turn him human again?
The answer is a sad one -- no, you cannot. He cannot be revived once killed either.
Does telling Laurentius where I learned my pyromancy give me anything?
Nope. There are no rewards for this. It does nothing for you in the game, except for breaking your heart.
Can I buy / learn Flash Sweat or Iron Flesh from anyone other than Laurentius in Dark Souls?
No -- he unfortunately is the only one who has these in the whole game so you cannot learn it elsewhere. If you killed him, then you must wait until your next playthrough in the game to get a chance to learn these pyromancy skills.
Are Flash Sweat and Iron Flesh worth getting?
These two skills ARE good and have their purposes in this game (regardless of what others may tell you). You'll find more use out of Iron Flesh though, so if you only feel like getting one of them, then that's the one to get.
Where can I find Laurentius?
You probably didn't come here for this information, as you already found him, but you can find Laurentius in the Depths area by the Butcher. He's stuck in a pot. To free him, roll into the pots and then talk to him. When you rest at a bonfire, he'll be at Firelink Shrine afterward and can sell you Pyromancy abilities if you so happen to want him to. If you accidentally hurt him / attacked him and made him aggro, then whatever you do, DO NOT kill him. Run away like a pansy and go absolve yourself of sin, you naughty child!
I would like to point out that if you are reading this article, then it most likely is too late to save the life of Laurentius. Remember this -- they say time heals all wounds. Rest assured, it does not in this case 😉 Feel free to comment below if you are full of grief at the loss of Laurentius from your Dark Souls game world. Or laugh in happiness. Both work.

NOOOOOOOO!!!! I was just getting into Pyromancy and was planning on getting Iron Flesh, but noooo.... I can't now because I was trying to help out an old friend. Good bye Laurentius! i will miss you until NG+. C'mon From Software, atleast give us the chance to go with him and fight side-by-side. If he died this way, I'd feel much better.
