Solve: Call of Duty - Black Ops -- Crashing, Freezing, Lagging, No Sound
Yes. While Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the newest version of the CoD series, many people are still playing the original or have recently bought it.
Most of the bugs have been worked out via patches / updates and so forth for this excellent First Person Shooter (FPS), but not these game fixes do not necessarily work for everyone.
Note that the solutions provided for troubleshooting are able to help both users with normal copies of the game, as well as Steam / Origin copies.
Fix Call of Duty: Black Ops Lag
-- Turn off Shadows
-- Lower resolution
-- Upgrade to the latest video card / graphics card drivers (NVIDIA, ATI, Intel, etc)
-- Disable Steam Cloud
And finally, navigate to (and open [with Notepad]) the following file (the path is similar for non-Steam games):
steamapps\common\\call of duty black ops\\players\\config_mp.cfg
Locate seta r_glow_allowed “1″ (using CTRL+F) and change the 1 to a 0.
Do the same to seta r_gfxopt_dynamic_foliage “1″ (set it to 0)
Fix Call of Duty: Black Ops Freezing, Errors, Black Screen
The solution to these are all similar in nature and even fix CoD: Black Ops launch failure.
Some common errors are:
“DirectX Encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions.”
“BlackOpsMP.exe has stopped working” (multiplayer error -- though it can happen with single player)
"EXE_CANNOT_FIND_ZONE"
To get rid of these, do the following:
-- Steam users should validate / revalidate their game cache
-- Update video card drivers
-- Delete the NFC files for Black Ops in the steamapps/common folder
-- Use the latest DirectX (or the included copy with the game -- common\call of duty black ops\Redist\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe )
-- Set the game compatibility to Windows XP SP3 (if on Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista)
Navigate to the directory:
steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players\
And rename config.cfg to configBAK.cfg...And also rename config_mp.cfg to config_mpBAK.cfg. This should cause the game to create a new copy.
Fix Call of Duty: Black Ops Sound
No sound, music, or special effects noises?
A couple of solutions that work for many people playing this game are...
-- Set your audio to 16bit 48000hz playback
-- Install the included DirectX ( common\call of duty black ops\Redist\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe )
Easy right?
And one last tip. If you want to change your Field of Vision / View (FOV) then in the console type... command /cg_fov 80
Hopefully we helped fix your Call of Duty: Black Ops! If you have stuttering still or a low rate of frames per second, then remember to lower your graphic settings. Also keep in mind that certain mouse and keyboards cause issues (such as microstuttering or too high of a DPI for the game on some occasions).
